Comprehensive rehabilitation and adaptation works of the Lleialtat Santsenca building, an old workers’ cooperative in the Sants neighborhood (Barcelona), with the aim of transforming it into a municipal community-managed facility dedicated to culture, neighborhood life, and cooperation. The project, promoted by the Coordinator of Entities for Lleialtat Santsenca (CELS) and supported by the Barcelona City Council, is a response to a long process of neighborhood advocacy initiated in 2009 for the recovery of this emblematic space.

The works consisted of the structural rehabilitation of the building’s three main sections, respecting the historical character of the complex and highlighting its identity as a cooperative space. New multipurpose spaces have been created for cultural, social, and community activities, connectivity between the different areas has been improved through a central atrium, and environmental interventions have been carried out to ensure high energy efficiency and sustainability.

The result is an open, accessible, and intergenerational facility that has become a benchmark in the neighborhood. A vibrant space designed to host critical and transformative initiatives, strengthen community networks, and foster active neighborhood participation. A new Lleialtat Santsenca that preserves the memory of the past, engages with the present, and projects a more just and collaborative future for the Sants neighborhood.
