A new research and care center serving children with rare diseases

At CALAF Constructora, we are participating in the development of the Únicas SJD project, located in Esplugues de Llobregat—a new precision medicine center promoted by the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital. The project was established with the goal of becoming a benchmark in the research and treatment of pediatric rare diseases.

The initiative involves the construction of a highly specialized building that integrates healthcare spaces, laboratories, and biomedical research areas, as well as collaborative zones designed for professionals, patients, and families. With an approximate surface area of 13,000 m², it is a complex infrastructure that requires a high level of technical expertise and coordination among all teams involved.

Designed by Batlleiroig, the project focuses on humanized architecture, with natural light as a central element and sustainable construction solutions that combine concrete and laminated wood. In this context, we contribute to making a facility with a strong social impact possible, aimed at advancing pediatric research and improving people’s quality of life.
